1.) How did the squirrel justify what he was doing?


The little squirrel justified by saying that he was helping Rama build the bridge with stones and that he wanted to work hard for him 


2.) Why did the squirrel want to help in building the bridge?


Even though the squirrel was little he still wanted to help in building the bridge as his heart cried out for Rama and he wanted to do his best

Even though the squirrel was much little compared to the monkey physically however his urge to help was much greater than that of the monkey. He had pure intentions and was doing whatever was in his power. Hence the work of the squirrel was no less important than the monkeys

While the squirrel was carrying the Pebble from the shore to the sea one of the monkeys who were angry picked him up by his tail and threw him far away. the squirrel cried out the name of Rama and thus fell into his hand
